ABOUT THE COMPANY


Smith Bell marked an important milestone in its corporate history on December 19, 1877, when it was appointed Lloyd's Agent for Zebu (now Cebu). In subsequent years, Smith Bell was appointed agent for additional Philippine ports, and continues to enjoy the distinction of being the sole Lloyd's Agent in the Philippines. Today, Smith Bell is proud to be one of approximately 300 Lloyd's Agents worldwide.

Over nearly 150 years, Smith Bell has built deep expertise, experience, and credibility in Maritime Surveys, including Cargo, Hull & Machinery, and a wide range of specialized services.

The Division acts as Claims Settling and Recovery Agent for Underwriters at Lloyd's of London and for various insurance companies throughout the world.

HULL & MACHINERY SURVEY


Acting on behalf of underwriters, foreign and local insurance companies, ship owners, and P&I Clubs, the Division carries out the following surveys:

INTELLIGENCE & INVESTIGATION SERVICES


The Division provides intelligence and investigation services on marine, aviation, and other insurance-related matters for Lloyd's of London and other principals and clients abroad, including:

  • Reporting of major marine and aviation casualties, as well as other insurance-related incidents such as fire and insurance fraud
  • Monitoring and reporting on government legislative developments related to sea and airport cargo insurance
  • Conducting investigations for foreign underwriters on travelers' insurance claims and cargo/hull losses
  • Adjustment of non-marine insurance claims for Lloyd's of London and other principals and clients abroad, covering casualty, machinery breakdown, business interruption, aviation, and other allied risks

NON-MARINE PROPERTY PRE-RISK SURVEY


This survey assists underwriters in assessing the acceptability of a risk, determining the appropriate level of rating, and evaluating the type of structure involved.

BRAND PROTECTION


As part of its commitment to protecting the commercial interests of its principals, the Division also offers Brand Protection services — providing end-to-end management of counterfeit or non-compliant goods from seizure through to verified destruction. Services include:

  • Transportation coordination from designated locations
  • Full auditing of goods throughout the process
  • Storage solutions
  • Security for both transportation and storage (if required)
  • Full destruction and recycling of goods
  • Certification of destruction
  • Detailed reports throughout the process, documenting audited quantities of items delivered, stored, and destroyed, with photo and video evidence
